Kayak Paddle Q

when I started kayaking I, like most people have started the paddle which was picked up by kayak used . It was cheap, weighed what seemed like twenty pounds and really left a lot to be desired. I did not know any better and just paddled away for a few weeks before it dawned on me that the paddle made my kayaking experience less than desirable. Making matters worse, my kids were with the same type of paddles, they were worn out and did not really enjoy kayaking after about thirty minutes.

As I walked into OEX Mission Bay and started asking about paddles, I was met with many questions. Some of these were easy to answer and what I had not really considered so it took a little more attention. Some of the questions were:

What experience do you have kayaking

What type of kayak you paddle

What kind of kayaking you do ???

How long have you and do you good “appropriate” for a paddle? If that is so you know what length you need or want?

Do you know what kind of stroke you like to paddle?

Did you and paddle over a kayak? If so, you have a paddle that can be used for both want?

What is your budget?

Is there a particular brand you are interested in?

Have you paddling Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) too?

These serve as a basis and are things we need to consider before getting that great new paddle we see someone on TV. Just because someone in the latest issue of Kayak Bass Fishing Magazine uses a particular paddle and length does not always mean that it is right to do for you. You have to you, your kayak, your style and consider your budget.

My recommendation is to visit a local kayak shop and their expert staff put you in a kayak similar, if not identical to the one you can try out to a few paddles. You have to actually demo in the water as possible. This gives you a good feel for what is available to give, as well as determine what paddling suits you for the way you paddle and the type of kayak you are. This will also give you a very clear picture of the different paddles to make weight and associated costs.

It is of the utmost importance that you take the time and effort to the paddle that fits best to find you. Choosing the perfect paddle does not have to be either so complicated, just take the time to do it for and enjoy more quality time on the water.
