Larger Sharks in the Irish Sea !!
Having only just recovered from sailing I thought my catch of the season ended I surpass myself a few days later. I was fishing the same area as mentioned in my last report, but this time I was using an experimental bait which I can reveal the details in the future after I have tested it for a little longer.
I let the bait to the bottom and on what was a warm, sunny day (for Ireland anyway) I set myself to play the waiting game. After sitting out there for a while and with thoughts of going home to start to enter my opinion, a fish finally the bait. The reel screamed as tope grabbed my offer and headed for the horizon.
Within a very short time, I knew that these fish would be significantly larger than the last. They went further than any rough I’ve ever associated with before and she was a real struggle to get the side of the kayak. The 30 pound class gear was stretched to the limit, my knots were very well tested and I prayed that nothing would go to if I slow the huge fish pumped into me.
With exertions I managed to get her on board, remove the hook and posing for the camera before holding her in the water until they again her strength and swam away. A big catch and one that will stay with me forever.
I have no idea what weighed the fish, I do not put estimates on catches like this. People have guessed something of £ 50 + £ 90 +. There is talk of the fact that it is a possible Irish record for the species. I’m not sure, but one thing I do know is that as far as I know, it is the largest fish from a kayak angler landed in Irish waters so far. Take a look at the pictures and see what you think for yourself …… ..
