Thanks for writing. I am also the founder of Precision Trolling Data, LLC, a company that has spent more than 20 years of research, testing and documenting the current depths of plugs, diving planers, trolling weights and lead core line. In recent years we have done a lot of work with
diving plugs with lead core line. The findings are interesting and I think you would find them useful. At present, we have tested about a dozen different plugs on lead core lengths including 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 color set-ups using Dacron lead core 18 pound test, with a 15 “leader of 4/10 Fireline. What we find is that lead core does a good job of helping the diving crankbaits achieve significantly deeper depths. Our baseline trolling speed is currently 2.0 MPH, but if time permits, we will extend this information to include other popular trolling speeds.
This approach can be fished as a flat line or in combination with in-line planer boards, such as the popular Off Shore Tackle side-planer and the new SST Pro Magnum board.
These data are available for sale on both the Android and iPhone smart phone packages as the Precision Trolling dates, LLC App, available from the Google Play and Apple Stores respectively. Individual strands data sells for $ 1.99 per lure. Some of the baits we have tested to date with lead core are the Rapala Deep Husky Jerk No. 12 Berkley Flicker Minnow No. 7 Minnow Berkley Flicker No. 9 Rapala Shad Rap No. 7, Reefrunner 800 series and Storm Original Rattle to name a few. We also sell the data into a package called the lifetime version costs $ 109.99, all of the data we currently have published (over 600 dives curves) contains and to publish new information that customers receive this information at no extra cost for the life of the app.
We also have plans to expand this information to 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 contain color setups.
