REVIEW: HUK Performance ICON Fish Shirt
I’m constantly looking for new fishing shirts, pants, jackets and shoes. Looking at the numerous fishing shows available I loved seeing a new, recurring shirt. Not covered with patches, glitter, sponsors and zippers like most of the fishing gear show, it looked pretty basic, but if that bear a lot of people had something about it. I ordered a blue, because I have an obvious affection for the color blue, and put it through the paces for the last month.
The Good Stuff
The HUK ICON is lightweight but packed with features. I probably have 20 long sleeve shirts fish performance of a few different brands. ICON is lighter than either of them that I still maintain all the SPF others. Not only is the lighter fabric better for us sweaty people back, but so is the breathable panel that makes half of the back of the shirt. The mesh is also made to the bottom of the sleeves which carried out the wind makes to the warmer days at some ventilation may be necessary to affect skin to the sun. HUK has a touch of spandex added as well so the shirt will bend if necessary. Most competitive shirts use 100% polyester. The HUK mix is 90% polyester and 10% spandex everywhere except the mesh panels that are 100% polyester. That means that the shirt does not just hang out at you, but moves with you.
Points for improvement
The seams are covered on the back of the neck with extra material. During the rest of the shirt is not. I understand the idea behind it, but I’d really like to see covered all seams with additional poly / spandex blend. The raised seams can irritate if you order a tight shirt and fish in the heat quite a bit. The underwear industry has moved away from seams and although this is not yet possible, this blended fabric shirts, would seams covered a step in the right direction. I’d be interested in seeing a version of the HUK ICON with a poly / spandex hood with drawstring and a few thumb holes in the sleeves. Hoodies and polo shirts are offered, but are much thicker fabric.
This is an excellent fishing shirt. I will be adding more to my collection for spring and summer fish, probably in different shades of blue. If blue is not really your thing, ICON comes in different colors including camo options.
