REVIEW: PEETZ Hookum Diving Spoon

After about 45 years hidden in the depths of the PEETZ vault, the Hookum Diving spoon has returned. I decided to test and see if this old spoon age still fancied by fish.

based on the color, size, and the action of the spoon, I chose to focus White and Hybrid Bass here in Central Texas.
the Hookums produced by PEETZ in Canada. the spoon known for its erratic movement while trolling for West coast sport fish. I’m not on the west coast, but still wanted to give it a chance accessible fresh water in my room. spoons cost $ 11.99, but the price goes down, the more you buy. generally, two to five spoons are $ 9.21, and six or more is $ 8.29.

I dragged it behind my ATAK 140 through boiling White Bass and actually put some fish in the boat, but I also missed a pair of hook ups. I found a number of schools are in 30-35ft of water and decided to fish the spoon as a plate, and I pulled out a few Hybrids. I was excited because I do not typically pull Hybrids of the soil. Finally I found schools at different depths and decided to fish a jig in depth and ledges. To my surprise, I drew a large mouth bass from a ledge then out of my hands and flopped back into the water.

Peetz on all the trips I’ve noticed that I missed a number of hook ups were some user errors, but I wanted to push to the test and see if I my hook ratio would increase to.. I fish usually with a 2/0 hook, and Hookum comes with a 3/0 Siwash hook. I decided to try my hand craftsmanship, and I’ll put a treble on the Hookum instead of the single hook. I missed less hook ups, but managed to land smaller fish.

my test came to a hault when my “Padillac Special” grapnel rigged Hookum was snagged 35 feet down while jig fishing, and broke off. Apparently Boris Cecil Peetz knew what he was doing when he originally designed the Hookum with a single hook.

Altogether the Hookum lure is a viable trolling that can be fished in different ways for varying species. It comes in 14 colors to match most local hatch. I have no doubt that it will continue to be successful on the coasts if I can pull fish from lakes bordering the sea. I do not know

intends to no longer match, so I can continue to catch fish.
